MDT DVIR Vehicle Inspections Overview

myAvail offers an optional DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspections Report) vehicle inspection reporting feature that enables vehicle operators to document electronic vehicle inspections after logging on to the MDT using a pass/fail system.

TIPS: This tool is designed for simplicity of use. Maintenance managers, or other staff determined by your team, can create and manage ongoing needs for using the electronic DVIR screens. Permissions determine who has access to the Vehicle Inspections Settings area. Users can create these inspection screens and set them up for deployment to your fixed route vehicles, where they display on the MDT for your operators. Collaboration with your maintenance team is crucial, if another department will manage creating the DVIR. This will ensure the inspections align with your agency standards/ requirements for reporting.  Agencies using Avail’s Transit Assets solution (Work Orders) can start and track the repair work order process by simply right‑clicking a related event, typically on the Maintenance area/ queue.

As mentioned, your maintenance team is the best fit for defining the inspection checks, listing failure reasons for each inspection check, and to arrange the inspection checks and failure reasons for the display on the vehicle MDT. DVIRs can easily be used for agencies that require both a pre and post check, too.

For vehicles that have this option, the MDT DVIR Vehicle Inspection screens begin right after the MDT Logon screen. The Vehicle Inspection screens begin with a set of defined vehicle checks, and then end with a set of vehicle‑specific body checks. Throughout the DVIR inspection process, the MDT provides Prev (previous) and Next buttons to go back or forward between completed pre‑trip test screens. All inspection checks must be passed or failed before proceeding to the next screen, however, body damage screens may be skipped, as needed. Use the PRETRIP button to see the last documented results for the vehicle. and to enter updates.

After the DVIR Inspections screens, the MDT prompts the operator to complete the MDT Standard Pre-Trip Tests. These tests are also designed around meeting compliance standards and use a 'Pass', 'Fail', or 'Skip' button to document results. After these are completed, the MDT displays a screen that allows the operator a choice to either submit their pre‑trip test results or cancel and restart pre-trip tests. All failures populate maintenance reports, for review/ trends.

PLEASE NOTE: At the completion of pretrip inspections, the vehicle operator will be presented with a button to 'Submit Pretrip Results' on the MDT. When this button is pressed, the data begins to move to its appropriate location. For example, failures will be directed to the Maintenance queue for further review/ management. All passed/ failed items also display in your Business Intelligence reports ( Maintenance reports).
