Overview
The Tire Maintenance page allows users to manage tire activity directly on vehicles, including installing, removing, rotating, and updating tread depth. This feature represents the migration of Tire Tracking functionality from FleetNet into ETMS.
Unlike Tire Stock, which manages inventory-level tire records, Tire Maintenance is vehicle-specific. It displays only vehicles that have defined tire positions. Vehicles without tire positions configured will not appear in this list.
From this page, users can:
View all tire position records on a selected vehicle
Install tires into open positions
Remove tires from a vehicle
Rotate tires between positions
Update tread depth and tread check dates
Record service location, employee, and remarks for maintenance actions
The user can drill into an individual vehicle and perform all the necessary actions with the tires by selecting it on the grid.
Sort
The user can sort vehicles in ascending or descending order by clicking on the column header.
Search
The user can search vehicles by a vehicle number or make/model.
Vehicle Selection
When accessing Tire Maintenance, the first screen displays a list of vehicles that have tire positions configured.
Only vehicles with at least one defined tire position record will appear. This prevents inactive or unrelated vehicles from populating the list.
Select a vehicle to open its tire maintenance details.
Info Tab
The Info tab displays all tire positions configured and available for the selected vehicle.
Positions may include examples such as:
Left Front (LF)
Right Front (RF)
Left Rear (LR)
Right Rear (RR)
Left Rear Outer (LRO)
Left Rear Inner (LRI)
Right Rear Outer (RRO)
Right Rear Inner (RRI)
This tab is view-only. No edits can be made here. It provides a consolidated view of:
Tire manufacturer
Serial number
Tire status
Tread depth
Position
Mileage-related data
Additional details are available using the expansion (+) option. The expanded layout follows the standard ETMS Transit Assets framework and is consistent across migrated forms. This data comes from the Vehicle Master and the Tire Stock record.
Install Tab
The Install tab displays only positions that do not currently have a tire installed.
Install Tire
1. Select the Edit icon on the position record to edit.
2. Enter required information:
Location Serviced (garage/shop where work occurred)
Employee (who performed the work)
Manufacturer
Serial Number (filtered by selected manufacturer)
Optional fields may include:
Tread Depth
Balance Date
Change Date (cannot be set in the future)
Remarks
3. Select Save
4. Confirm the installation action when prompted by selecting OK. The tire is saved as installed.
If the installation is successful, a green confirmation message will appear.
If any required fields are missing, an orange message will display, indicating which fields must be completed.
After saving:
The position record will no longer appear on the Install tab.
It now appears on the Info tab as an installed tire and on the Remove tab as a tire available to be removed if needed in the future.
Remove Tab
The Remove tab displays positions that currently have installed tires ready to be removed.
Remove Tire
1. Select the Location and Service Employee, add remarks
2. Select the checkbox next to the tire position record
3. Click Remove Tires.
4. Confirm the removal action when prompted by selecting OK. The tire position record is removed.
If the removal is successful, a green confirmation message will appear.
If any required fields are missing, an orange message will display, indicating which fields must be completed.
Once removed:
The tire is no longer associated with the vehicle.
The tire position record becomes available under the Install tab.
Rotate Tab
Tires can be rotated between positions using the rotation functionality.
Rotate Tire
1. Select the tire position to edit.
2. Change the position assignment on two records (for example, Left Front (LF) to Right Front (RF)).
3. Save two records.
4. Select Rotate Tires
5. Confirm the rotation action when prompted by selecting OK.
If the rotation is successful, a green confirmation message will appear.
If there are two matching tire positions in the grid, after Rotate Tires is selected, an orange message will display, indicating that.
Once completed, the tire positions will update accordingly.
Tread Depth Tab
On the Tread Depth tab the user can update the tread depth of a tire.
Update Tread Depth
1. Enter the Tread Check Date. The current date is automatically selected.
2. Enter the Tread Depth value. The user can type in numbers with decimals (limit of 3). Number limit is 10000.
3. Save the record by clicking the Save icon.
Selecting Cancel will return the user to the non-edit mode.
If the update is successful, a green confirmation message will appear.
Validation rules include:
- Numeric values only
- Decimal values permitted
- System-enforced upper limit to prevent invalid data entry
- Extremely large values are automatically corrected to the allowed maximum
This validation prevents inconsistent or corrupted tread data.
Future enhancements may standardize tread depth measurement units across customers.
Security Functions and Permissions
The Permission that governs the Tire Maintenance form is in ETMS > HR > Positions > Edit Position section and is located under the same ETMS hierarchy: Transit Assets > Fleet Management > Tire Maintenance and is called Tire Maintenance: View and Edit.
View - Allows only to view tires position records. The buttons within the form will not be selectable, as well as all the fields within the tabs will be inactive.
Edit - Allows for installing, removing, rotating of tire position records, and updating the tread depth of a tire.
