Monitoring Operations includes attention to system-generated alerts. These prompts are used to alert staff when an issue arises so proactive monitoring may be performed. These monitoring notices occur under conditions such as:
- When the operator/vehicle is not using its digital schedule as scheduled.
- The vehicle is generating maintenance alerts via the J1939 sensor.
- Operators send canned messages or EAs to the dispatch office.
The Operations area includes various areas that are populated below in the table.
Use Cases
Dispatch Team Monitoring: For example, a vehicle will automatically generate an event if it is running early/ departing stops before the scheduled time, is off route, running behind or departing stops later than scheduled, a vehicle is moving but not logged into, etc. Dispatch manages these events using the Operations area. All logged events and communications populate the Events reports in your Business Intelligence tool.
Maintenance Team Monitoring: Your maintenance team manages maintenance events using the Operations area. All logged maintenance events populate the Maintenance reports in your Business Intelligence tool.
The first table below describes where events/alerts are routed, and the second table describes all existing events and where the system routes the events by default.
Event configuration is customized for each agency, meaning your settings may differ from default settings. If your event configuration requirements change, please get in touch with Avail Support.
Operations Tab Window/Queue Name |
Intended Use |
This area/queue displays messages related to vehicle communications, such as an operator sending a canned message, EA, an RTT, or PRTT to dispatch. NOTE: myAvail displays tracked messages that dispatchers send to operators ( those requiring an acknowledgment) in the 'Sent Messages' area. Please see Sent Messages. |
|
This area/queue displays events related to the operational status of the vehicle ( early, late, off route, etc.) |
|
This area/queue displays operational events that need to be brought to the attention of the Maintenance staff, such as mechanical issues reported from vehicles (pretrip failures, manual passes, VHM issues- vehicle health monitoring). |
|
This area displays the status of vehicles in service, comparing scheduled depart times to each vehicle's actual OTP for monitoring purposes, along with any deviations. View the last stop serviced, APC counts (if configured), vehicle direction, and more. Number badges appear on the tab name, to alert dispatch about potential issues (early, late vehicles). TIP: If configured for your agency, use the 'Route Status' tab to monitor sets of vehicles servicing specific routes, and see bus bunching/vehicle spacing and capacity per vehicle alerts. Review Route Status & Route Map for more info. |
|
Use this predictive tool area to monitor specific vehicles and their assigned Run for the day. Right-click a vehicle record/ bus bubble to add a vehicle to the Timeline. The vehicles' schedule for this service day is displayed to assist dispatch with decision-making processes. For example, determining when to perform operator switchouts, vehicle swaps, etc.; all based on vehicle time and location. The Timeline updates as vehicle service stops and shares color-coding specifications used on the map for OTP prompts (green, yellow, red, grey, etc.), assisting dispatch with making daily operations decisions. TIP: software 9.3 and up includes configurations for the Route Ladder, which is an enhanced tool allowing similar functions for monitoring purposes. Review Using Route Ladder for more info. |
|
Events with this tag will auto-trigger the vehicle to be placed onto the timeline window display. |
|
This area is used to track vehicle pullout, beginning with an electronic 'Check In' feature, then tracks vehicle MDT login and pullout (and/or pullin); monitoring the initial garage pullout or mid-day relief pullouts. 'Missed', 'expired, 'late', etc., pullouts can be configured to generate events for dispatch to monitor. Any needed changes to your pullout tables should be communicated to Avail Support via the Customer Portal. Also, see the Pullout Status Summary. This is an optional feature, and may, therefore, not be configured in your system. Please contact your Avail representative or email bisdev@availtec.com for more information. |
|
This area is associated with the optional Platform Management feature. This is a specialized feature that allows vehicles to be re-assigned to different blocks on the fly to improve on-time departure and reduce vehicle layover time at a defined stop. This is an optional feature. Please contact your Avail representative or email bisdev@availtec.com for more information. |
|
This area is populated by events sent/ received to/from the selected vehicle and may include dispatch and/or operator communications (if used), much like a mini breadcrumb trail. This data is stored in your Business Intelligence Events reports. |
Optional Event Routings
Optional routings exist that require specific in-vehicle equipment and in-vehicle software versions, along with a minimum version of myAvail. Properties may use these routings only with Avail’s approval. Please contact Avail Support to determine whether your system can use these routings.
Camera Tag: This routing causes the system to send a message to the vehicle that generated the event, which triggers the vehicle’s DVR to mark the current video segment for download and review.
Camera Note: This routing causes the system to send a message to the vehicle that generated the event, which triggers the vehicle’s DVR to append metadata about operational details to the current video segment.
