Avail Product Engage Roadmap

The product team is kicking off our development plans for 2026, and this seems like the ideal time to check in with our customers and share updates on what we've been up to and what's coming next for myAvail. Once you've had a chance to review the roadmap, tell us which feature you’re most excited about

If you came to Engage 2025 in Salt Lake City - thank you! You'll also remember we discussed a few key product areas of focused:

  • Our latest tools for Fixed Route Dispatching, including Live Map and Communications in myAvail ETMS.  This new platform is optimized to run on the web—both in the dispatch office and on the road.
  • Updates to Avail's EAM product, Transit Assets. Like dispatching updates, this effort focuses on moving the features you've depended on for decades into a new product that works wherever you do.
  • Avail's groundbreaking solution for fixed route navigation: Route Adherence.  This has been a major effort across many of our product teams over the past couple of years.  We saw the solutions on the market, we heard from you all on the problems, and we knew we could do better.
    • You didn't want to add another screen on the dashboard, we agree so it's part of our standard MDT
    • You didn't want navigation to send a bus down a side street that wasn't designed for buses, we agree and developed an adherence model, not a traditional navigation model
    •  You wanted to be able to give your operators direction based on real world conditions, not the latest update to map, we agree but this was a huge lift, so we can't wait for you to see "manual mode" being released in myAvail 11's Detour Adherence feature.
  • We also talked about a few product ideas in some of our roundtable sessions. Dozens of you sat with me and my team to talk about how to improve pullout management and daily operations. Even more people showed up to talk about the potential in migrating myStop and integrating our CRM to help you manage customer feedback.  (*Caleb said he'll get us bigger rooms for Engage 26 - so keep showing up!)

The 2026 development year is a big year for us and for the product, so I wanted to set the stage appropriately.  For those of you who know me, you know I'm a bit of a transit nerd, so there's a bit of a theme here.

Now Boarding

These features are the newest additions to the myAvail platform and are already in use by agencies like yours.

  • Vehicle Incidents - myAvail Vehicle Incidents consolidates the service interruptions related to vehicle problems into a simple workflow.  Dispatchers can create incidents either from scratch or from an event in the myAvail system and associate the vehicles and service, so work orders can be generated in myAvail Work Order Management and service adjustments calculated accurately for NTD reporting.  This year we are going to improve the workflow so these adjustments are not only accurate calculated but also automatically incorporated into NTD reporting.
  • NTD Reporting - myAvail NTD reporting provides a range of complete NTD reports and enables reports generated from across the myAvail ETMS product to assist our agency in NTD reporting.  myAvail Finance and Payroll are leveraged to generate F series and the R-10 reports, while NTD Service Reporting calculates S-10 values for scheduled service +/- adjustments and passenger miles sampling with APCs.
  • Customizations for Live Map  - myAvail Live Map is the latest generation of myAvail dispatch tools to allow for command and control of your fixed-route operation. This feature will eventually completely replace myAvail Dispatch to provide all the functionality you've come to rely on for running your operations.  The feature continues to receive additional functionality with a status grid, light/dark mode, and custom chimes for communications events - all coming this year.
  • myAvail Work Order Management - work orders have been updated and optimized for use on shop kiosks and tablets to "work where you do".  Work order assignment has been enhanced to give maintenance supervisors direct control of who is working on what and when.  Vehicle status also can be updated directly from the work order, so Avail's SmartYard updates everywhere as soon as the bus is pulled from service.
  • Avail 360 - this product line has been behind the scenes for a little while, and you probably remember references to it in some of our past Engage conferences.  Today, we've been using Avail 360 to do everything from integrate with mobile ticketing vendors to serve data for custom dashboards to display in your facilities. Avail has been setting the standard in open integrations since the early days of GTFS; using this new product to help agencies achieve their objectives will keep us at the forefront of adopting today's standards and defining the next ones.

Now Arriving

These features are almost done and are available in myAvail 11; connect with your CARE team to learn about the path for getting these features in your myAvail.

  • myAvail Detour Adherence - One of the biggest pain points from our Detour Management feature was drawing that polygon to select the detour area.  Our UI/UX team designed a new method of simply clicking on the route where the detour begins and end and automatically creating that polygon.  The team also added the ability to manually draw the trace, so if there's a road that just hasn't been updated in Google Maps, you can still draw the detour path.

A special thank you to David Dudek at Intercity Transit for reviewing our designs and answering our questions as we made these updates.

  • myAvail In Vehicle Adherence - The turn by turn direction and the map created in Detour Adherence are now available on the vehicle.  As the bus enters the detour, a map is displayed on the MDT including the turn by turn directions for the operator.  This includes an audible announcement from the MDT so as the operator approaches the next turn they don't need to take their eyes of the road.

And credit to Adam Becker and the whole IndyGo team for partnering on this feature, from design to field-testing, we couldn't have developed this feature without your support.

Next Stop

These features are currently in design, and we'll be looking for customers to partner with us this year.

  • myStop Ridership Relationship Management - Avail's Real-Time Passengers Information (RTPI) solution has been serving your riders for almost a decade at this point, so it's time for a complete overhaul.  We will be focused on meeting the latest web accessibility guidelines, fully standardizing on GTFS-rt,  so you'll have the ability to add neighboring agencies to your myStop - even if they don't yet have a myAvail CAD/AVL system and customer relationship management solution to manage customer feedback and streamline rider communication.
    • We'll also be evaluating the full myStop solution, including the IVR, SMS messaging and wayside signage features.
  • Full Fixed Route Adherence - building on myAvail Detour adherence and leveraging the In Vehicle Adherence model, we are adding the capability for turn by turn directions for your regularly scheduled routes.  The learning curve for people already using detour adherence should be pretty small, since we are using a lot of the same functionality and for new operators learning the routes will be a lot easier.
  • myAvail Inventory Management - While we continue adding more functionality to Transit Assets, we'll also be starting the migration of Inventory Management.  Our new work management feature pulls inventory off the shelf and on to your buses, now we want to update the part of the product that replenishes that stock.

Flag Down Stop

These customer-requested features weren't on the original roadmap, but they had the right characteristics to make the opportunity too good to pass up.

  • Avail 360 Ridership Integration - The faring space is incredibly varied today, with many solution providers offering unique product features for our customers.  This simplified model of ridership collection allows myAvail to accept ridership from any faring vendor who integrates with our APIs so you receive consolidated ridership reporting - ensuring reliable, consistent ridership no matter how many faring vendors are active at your agency.
  • VoIP Mobile - A new combination of hardware and software designed to improve the experience for supervisors and non-fixed route operators using myAvail VoIP.
  • Modular SmartYard - Automated Yard Management is a very popular technology in the industry, but the cost of entry can sometimes be prohibitive, so we're working to soften the adoption curve.  myAvail's Modular SmartYard is a new yard management solution for myAvail 11.  With this approach, an Agency can implement a manual yard map and gradually add sensors to buses and garages - transitioning to full automation as funding becomes available.

Layover

We are still collecting customer input on these features and working to prioritize development efforts.

  • Daily Ops and Pullout Management - This product will focus on updating myAvail's Pullout Management feature and providing some of the core functionality available in Daily Operations software - such as payroll generation and rostering.
  • Driver Vehicle Inspection Reporting - This product feature will expand DVIRs beyond the myAvail In-Vehicle solution, allowing DVIRs to be completed on a tablet.
  • Schedule Visualization - This product feature would visualize the fixed-route scheduling data imported after a schedule change, enabling review directly in myAvail.  From route maps to timetables, this feature is designed to streamline schedule data review after an import.

Short Turn

Based on customer feedback, these features were discussed at previous Engage sessions but haven't received enough interest to stay on the plan.

  • Ridership Reconciliation (2024 Roadmap) - This product feature was designed to allow Agencies to fully modify ridership in myAvail.  Ridership could be post-processed for reassignment to a different route or fare type, or deleted if it was in error.
  • Paratransit/MicroTransit Integration (2023 Roadmap) - While we've had great conversation with many of our peer vendors in this space, we haven't yet found the right project to implement that next level of integration for multi-modal control from with in myAvail.
