This report provides an analysis of the departure times for the date range that the filter pane specifies. The graph displays the percentage of times that trips start or end On Time, Late or Early. Use this report to identify factors that cause unacceptable on-time performance.
The user can select the Calculation Method in the drop-down: Vehicle Detection or Trigger Box Exit. The Vehicle Detection indicates the departure time is set as the first time the bus moved after the last time the door closed. The Trigger Box Exit indicates the departure time is set as the moment the bus leaves the trigger box.
The outcome variable on the vertical axis is departure status. The graph displays the percentage of each status on the vertical axis using color codes. The default graph displays departure status by routes. However, click the tabs along the top to change the horizontal variable. For example, click the Block tab to view statuses by block rather than route.
When assessing the graph, look for groups along the horizontal axis that have unacceptable on-time performance. Simplify this process by specifying a Sort Order in the filter pane that displays the groups by their status. For example, if you sort by on-time statuses, the groups with the lowest on-time performances will appear on the right-end of the horizontal axis.
Use the filter and drill-down features to customize the report for your requirements. To learn how to interact with reports, see this Business Intelligence section.
Click the three buttons at the bottom of the report to go to the following tables and reports:
- Show On-time Performance Table: Displays the percentages and counts of early, late, and outlier departures by route.
- Show Stop Level Data: Displays the actual versus schedule departure times by stops in a table.
- Go To Running Times: Displays the Running Times Variance Report.
In addition to the regular filter items, the On-time Analysis report has the following special items you can specify:
-
Sort Order: Choose the display order of the groups from left to right along the horizontal axis:
- Label (Default): Increasing order using the numeric and text values in the label’s name.
- Departure Count: Decreasing order using the number of departures.
- On-time: Decreasing order using the percentage of on-time departures.
- Early: Decreasing order using the percentage of early departures.
- Late: Decreasing order using the percentage of late departures.
- Show On-time Categories: Choose the statuses that you want the chart to display: On- time, Late, and Early departures along with missed stops. By default, the dashboard displays the On-time, Late, and Early Deselect the statuses you do not want to see. If you want to display the proportion of missed stops, check Include Missed Stops.
- Include Missed Stops: Check to display missed stops. A missed stop occurs when there is a scheduled departure, but the system does not record that departure.
- Include Outliers: Check to display outliers. An outlier occurs when a value exceeds the relevant outlier threshold.
- Include Detours: Check to display data that the system records while vehicles are on a detour. These results might be atypical.
- Early Threshold (Minutes): Specify how to determine whether a vehicle has departed early. When a vehicle departs earlier than the threshold number of minutes before the scheduled departure time, the system counts it as an early departure.
- Late Threshold (Minutes): Specify how to determine that a vehicle has departed late. When a vehicle departs later than the threshold number of minutes after the scheduled departure time, the system counts it as a late pullout.
- Early Outlier (Minutes): Specify how to determine whether a vehicle is an early outlier. When a vehicle departs earlier than the threshold number of minutes before the scheduled departure time, the system counts it as an early outlier. This report can track outliers separately.
- Late Outlier (Minutes): Specify how to determine whether a vehicle is a late outlier. When a vehicle departs later than the threshold number of minutes after the scheduled departure time, the system counts it as a late outlier. This report can track outliers separately.
- Transit Authority: Allows you to filter data to one or several Transit Authorities.
- Route: Allows you to filter data to one or several Routes.
- Block: Allows you to filter data to one or several Blocks.
- Run: Allows you to filter data to one or several Runs.
- Trip: Allows you to filter data to one or several Trips.
- Vehicle: Allows you to filter data to one or several Vehicles.
- Pattern: Allows you to filter data to one or several Patterns.
- Stop: Allows you to filter data to one or several Stops.
- Driver: Allows you to filter data to one or several Drivers.
- Day of Week: Allows you to filter data to one or several Days of Week.
- Hour of Day: Allows you to filter data to one or several Hours of Day.
- Direction: Allows you to filter data to one Direction or both Inbound and Outbound.
- Service Level: Allows you to filter data to one or several Service Levels.
- Peak Times: Allows you to filter data to one or several Peak Times.
On-time Departure Performance by Route Table
This table displays the percentages and counts of early, late, and outlier departures by route for the date range that the filter pane specifies. The departure performance graphs use these values.
Access this table by clicking the Show On-time Performance Table button that is at the bottom of the On-time Analysis by Departure report.
This table displays the following information:
- Route
- On-time Percent: Percentages of departures that occurred after the early threshold and before the late threshold.
- On-time Departures: Counts of departures that occurred after the early threshold and before the late threshold.
- Early Percent: Percentages of departures that occurred before the early threshold.
- Early Departures: Counts of departures that occurred before the early threshold.
- Late Percent: Percentages of departures that occurred after the late threshold.
- Late Departures: Counts of departures that occurred after the late threshold.
- Early Outlier Percent: Percentages of departures that occurred before the early outlier threshold.
- Early Outlier Departures: Counts of departures that occurred before the early outlier threshold.
- Late Outlier Percent: Percentages of departures that occurred after the late outlier threshold.
- Late Outlier Departures: Counts of departures that occurred after the late outlier threshold.
- Actual Departures: Count of all departures.
Click a column heading to sort the table by that column. Multiple clicks toggle between ascending and descending sort orders. For example, click the Late Percentage heading to display routes with the highest percentage of late departures at the top of the table.
Show Stop Level Data
This table displays the actual versus scheduled departure times by stops for the date range that the filter pane specifies. The departure performance graphs use these values.
Access this table by clicking the Show Stop Level Data button that is at the bottom of the On- time Analysis Departure report.
This table displays the following information:
- Date
- Operator
- Block/Route/Run/Trip/Pattern
- Stop/Stop ID
- Depart Time Actual: Vehicle departure times based on stop reports sent by the vehicles.
- Depart Time Schedule: Scheduled departure times in myAvail’s database.
- Depart Time Variance: Actual time - Scheduled time = Variance. Positive values are late while negative values are early.
- Status: System determines statuses by comparing the time variances to the early, late, and outlier threshold values in the filter pane.
Click a column heading to sort the table by that column. Multiple clicks toggle between ascending and descending sort orders. For example, click the Depart Time Variance heading to display stops with the largest variances at the top of the table.
